Thank you to all of you who have contacted me about the Government's appalling proposal to - in effect - overturn the fox hunting ban by means of a statutory instrument and a 90 minute debate in the House of Commons.
I voted for the Hunting Act which banned hunting with hounds, and I am strongly against any proposal to amend or weaken it. For me it is a moral question about preventing animal cruelty.
I was therefore all ready to vote against the proposal on 15 July when - as you may now be aware - the Government decided to cancel the vote at the last minute. It is clear that this was because they were afraid they would lose. They should now pull the plug on the whole idea, but if they don't, then I will of course vote against it.
